Memory card failure during wedding!

12 years 8 months ago #125383 by Eddy
OMG, I just got off the phone with buddy of mine who shot a wedding last weekend. He just went to download the photos today and there were no images on his memory card! Either the memory card or camera failed somewhere?!

He was asking me what he should do. Man I was clueless. I told him I sure wouldn't want to tell the bride! But I was going to post about it and see what others had to say.

Just in case there is a problem with the card reader have him reinsert the card in the camera and see if the camera can recall any images. If it can try downloading with another card reader, different USB post or perhaps straight from the camera. If no card reader is involved then perhaps one should be... Good luck.

First thing to do is NOTHING. Don't mess with the card by writing to it or re-formatting.

If there is anything there, there are recovery tools that can reconstruct the pictures. I'm sure MANY here have used one at one time another, and can give you the names. They all do basically the same thing -- scan and reconstruct.

But don't stress yet. Let the software do its thing. If there are pics there they can be saved. If not, nothing he could do would fix it.

Good luck,

Matthew :)

PS I agree with chas. Use a card reader not a USB cord to the camera!

Once the pictures are recovered, if possible. Make sure he is using FORMAT before a shoot. It will save him from future glitches like this.
