Poll results: Do more people use their camera's in Auto Mode over Manual?

12 years 8 months ago #128880 by PhotographyTalk
So we had another poll yesterday on the PhotographyTalk Facebook fan page asking people "if they used their camera's automatic settings most of the time" OR "did they use their camera in full manual mode 90 to 100% of the time?"

The results are in: Out of 468 photographers who voted 306 said they use their camera in manual settings over automatic settings.

I think the issue here is that most of the 468 people who responded are keen photographers, who would by their nature take a more detailed interest in their camera and therefore use the non-auto modes.

I suspect the wider population of casual camera users are 'Auto'

Just a thought :-)

A more accurate poll would be to look at cameras in the field while they are being used. I imagine there are a few closet auto users that lied about it for the poll. Of course I would never do that...

What's manual mode mean?

I generally shoot AV with wildlife and totally manual when shooting lightning or landscapes. I can't readjust as fast as the camera can when shooting critters.
