Africa safari photo workshop

I would like to go on a Africa safari photo workshop late 2011 or early 2012. Anyone make a suggestion on a good workshop/tour? It would be nice to have something that is well organized and is legit outfit. A friend of mine went on a Brazil rain forest workshop tour earlier this year and he said it was so un organized and waste of $7800. The food catering company apparently wasn't set up properly so their meals were bag lunches entire trip.

I would like something that is ideally 7 to 10 days in the field.

I would love to go only if I knew it was safe. I'm like adventure, but doesn't Africa have all sorts of political issues going on? Honestly I would rather go explore some exotic caves or Arctic circle I think would be so beautiful. I would love to photograph the Northern lights.

There are a lot of places to go, you need to check reviews carefully, then check them again.
I almost went to southern Chile/Argentina a few years ago(Patagonia), but backed out because of the political BS and poor reviews with both countries. I have only considered Africa, but never too seriously because they won't allow you to carry weapons, and I wouldn't go there unless HEAVILY armed.....B)

Why so serious?

I can't imagine the tours would go anywhere near troubled areas, they want to follow the safe path too.

I've had some friends do this. Make sure to rent a super telephoto for your trip. You will need it.

Ring up Visionary wild and then there's Pipermackay photography. I know Piper goes into Africa, not sure on Visionary one. I have a folder saved on my computer of workshops and photo tours. You know what, Renner Safaris is another one.

Good luck, I have many friends who have taken tours and loved it.

:agree: We are heading to Morocco in December but have been considering an African safari. I know people who have been in Africa many times and never with incident. Personally it's a spot I have never been and looking forward to going.

I'm just curious, and perhaps my answer to this question lies within my insurance papers. But would any of you know if your normal equipment insurance will be covered out of country?

Why wouldn't they? As long as your address for them to send claims to is in the USA, it shouldn't matter?
