How long are you keeping client photos saved on your computers?

How long are you keeping your clients photos? I have photos from nearly 4 years ago from some of my first clients. At what point do you just delete them? Or do you?

Forever, or until I die and someone throws them out. I'm proud of them, and hard drives are huge and cheap.

I keep the good ones, the others are gone long time ago. Who knows, someday I might just make a coffee table book show casing all my best work

I would rather be surfing!

I'm hoping that some couple who's wedding I photographed becomes famous, and when the deluxe, coffee table book of their life is made the publisher will need to buy some of my photos. ;)

An interesting story is the guy who had the photo of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky taken long before the scandal broke. He recalled dozens of other photographers around him taking similar shots, but they all deleted their photos of the President and Monica. Who needed another photo of the President with someone nobody knew? He kept his because he was shooting film, and he archived every roll. Later he thought he recognized her, and went back, searched, and found the shot.

Keep the good ones, that will make a nice portfolio. I have a tough time deleting anything on my computer. Hard drives are pretty inexpensive these days.

Same here, I'm no pro, but I don't delete much myself. Does that mean I have a problem?

Very nice to meet you!

I keep them, you never know when they might come back requesting more prints.

Don't delete, you could need those later.

drobo. You can keep upsizing the drives = extra storage space.

Why delete anything?

Keep them for reference, also why not get in touch and ask the subjects if they would be interested in buyinbg any of the images, use it as an excuse to see if you can book another shoot.
external hard drives are so cheap now I keep all my images, a client got in touch from 3 years ago and asked to buy some images from there shoot just recently.
