So does anyone really care about 3D technology in cameras?

3D seems to be a common name in the marketing world these days. 3D this and 3D that. 3D TV's, blu ray's and of course cameras. Any thought on how long this fad will last? Or you think this will last longer and turn into an important segment of the photography community?

i have a 3d camera in my phone (evo 3d) and could care less. It's a cute novelty.

There have been 3D cameras for years, Nimslo, Revere etc. It seems to be more of a specialty. There are just more places online for things to get hyped than there used to be.

I have a box full of stereoviews. Including some by William Henry Jackson. I bring them out at gatherings sometimes.

I dont care about them. If I wanted to I could make 3D photos in CS. Yes it takes a fair amount of layering but it can be done.

If I wanted to do it I'd just use two identical cameras and work from there.

I imagine that eventually it will be like modern color pictures to old color picture, just the next step in photography evolution. It will eventually be common and expected, but not as it is currently it's got a ways to go first. :) I'd rather take good 2D pictures, than odd looking 3D pictures personally for most my images.

But having a bad lazy eye myself, I've always been fairly interested in forced 3D imaging. I like to follow and understand the different methods used. So basically I love that it's out there, but will sit back and enjoy others using it as it continues to get better.

Editing to clarify that I'm mostly referring to methods of displaying 3d... methods of capturing are pretty basic.
