Real estate photography

Could I get some advise on real estate photography? I'm looking for a way to make some income with my camera and wanted to know if there was a market for this kind of photography or has it dropped out due to the housing market in the toilet?

I would say there isn't as much as a market for real estate photography due to everyone has a camera. Digital has made it so easy to snap and upload. So realtors are carrying small point and shoots to take the pictures themselves. So, why would they bother in freelancing a photographer who also have a point and shoot to take pictures. (not saying you have a point and shoot, but I am sure there are people who have looked into real estate photography who only has a simple P&S.

I used to manage a one-hour photo lab, about 5-6 years ago. One of our best regular customers was in the real estate business and always brought in disposable cameras full of the property photos he snapped. I'm sure today he's doing the same, but with a digital P&S instead of disposables. And I'm sure there are many others besides him doing the same thing.

That money comes out of the pockets of the Realtors pockets which are already lean with home sales. I would bet they take all the photos themselves.

:agree:

What you could do is take pictures of all the toilets in the homes for sale. It would be an homage to Duchamp's "Fountain", and then you could show it as an art exhibit in a gallery.

A comment on how the housing industry is being run.

I have looked into that and the Realtors that do use other photographers have the buddy system going on with them.
