Should you title your work?

I know of two photographic artists having different opinions about titling their work. One says to let the viewer finish the photograph, - in other words, don't give it a title because your title might influence how the viewer sees it. The other photographer swears it is not a good idea to leave the viewer in the dark, so to speak, with regards to the image.

Opinons?

Hmmm good question, I see the point. I'm usually forgetful when putting a title with my photos anyway. But I do understand both sides, however I would lean towards placing a title, most cases people have viewed the photo and their brains have associated words to describe the photo already.

I like the idea of the viewer finishing the image as they see it. It's impossible for the viewer to know what is in the artist's mind. Let the viewer finish the image in his own mind without being influenced by the photographer.

I need to come down on the "tltle, please" side. When I visit an art show I don't like to try to figure ouf what the artist was thinking. Captions give me a direction to go in my appreciation of the artwork.

I like to know where pictures were taken, too. There are so many beautiful photos in the albums on this site, but so many of the photographers don't tell me where the photos were taken.
