I'm going to the Caribbean this summer and want to do some underwater photography. but I have no idea what camera to purchase. Can someone help me with this. I don't have alot of money - maybe $300 or $400 max.

I can only speak of the Olympus Stylus Tough. I bought this camera earlier in 2010 for a Cabo Mexico trip. What I will say is under water it worked just fine, the shutter was a little slow, video was pretty cool. You can go down about 33' in water and it's shock proof also (6.6 feet).

NOW OUT OF WATER - this camera I would rate a 4. The autofocus is slow and the shutter seems to have a small delay.

You can find these for mid $200 range. If you want something for underwater photos and video this camera will do the trick on a 1 to 10 scale I would say a over all "6" . Oh, the battery doesn't stay charged long.

For pure quality the Canon D10 seems to take the prize and is probably what I'd get.

I like to go snorkeling when I can and will probably get the next generation after the D10 (assuming it will a D11) if Canon release it.

You may want to watch this video (not sure if there are any new cameras that have come out after this video):

I had a D10 until my nephew took it for a weekend and broke it...It was tons of fun while I had it. It won't match non-swimming models for image quality/features but it does take nice snapshots especially in good light and then there are all the shots you can't get with anything else.
I was always kind of hoping the CHDK hack for it would become available but it's not finished yet.
