Printing an album

12 years 7 months ago #147894 by Wildgee
I'm getting to the point where I have many pics that I love, am proud of, that I would want to show others. So in the near future I want my best pictures in an album. I know nothing about this or what I'm getting myself into. Should I get a photo book? Or is it more practical to just print them and put them in a separately bought album with plastic slip in pages? What do prints usually run?($$$) I don't know anything about printing.

I get my prints professionally printed at a local store. Tthey use glossy paper, not the cheap stuff that WalMart has. 1 8x10 costs about $7. As for a book, i think that's more like what style you like, how much you want to spend, etc.

If you print them all at once it will cost you a fortune for good prints! Find a good print shop and make a goal of x-xx prints a month to steady out the cost.

If you have some money to spend on a really nice album check out some of the options at Mpix.

There are so many options out there other than the traditional plastic slip in pages.

There are nicer slip in albums. Some are all one size, (ie. 8x10) and others allow you to insert mats to allow for varying directions.

There are self mount adhesive books, but these are permanent so you aren't able to rotate out images.

There are the press printed albums which allow you to have an actual library bound book with pages of your images. These are cool because they look "published".

Then there are the "old school" style scrapbooks with oversized pages allowing you to use photo corners and mount any size image on a page or multiples on the same page.

The way you display your work is part of the overall presentation. You have worked hard to get those images and they are special to you, so why cut them short by displaying in something less than great. Take some time to think about how you want others to see your work.

Just a few suggestions. (Sorry about that, the thought really seemed shorter in my head.)

Hi Wildgee,

If you're planning to put together an album made from the 'best of the best' photos you've taken, I'd think you'd consider not only making it a fine presentation, but also the importance of making it museum-quality so it will last for generations!

The digitally printed images in our books are of the highest photographic quality, the paper is archival, and our bindings make the book a work of art. We produce books that you will be proud to present and will enhance your reputation as a photographer.

Not sure on humidity...our company is located in the California desert! But, our sample books do fine in storage at 125 degrees!
