Spare batteries

Hey guys, I'm ordering new batteries for my camera's. I'm just curious how many spare batteries do you keep with you? How long will a charged battery remain charged before it starts losing juice?

I keep about 20 AA batteries in my bag all fully charged the morning of the shoot, I always take the charger with me also, these are for my flash gun.
I carry 2 spare camera batteries again fully charged the morning of the shoot.
I have no idea of how long a battery keeps its charge thats why I charge them all specially for the day.

Are you guys using same brand batteries? So if you shoot Nikon are you buying only Nikon batteries? Or what have you found for a good 3rd party company?

I have a Canon & use Canon batteries. I have found that I can get approx. 300 photos without using the flash & in full manual mode. (approx 3 hrs of constant shooting) I do use the auto focus on the lens. I usually carry an extra battery whenever I take the camera out, along with the charger & have an invertor in my Jeep if needed. Usually just charging the batteries the night before or morning of a shot is enough, I just like to be prepared for the worse.

Of course I also carry a full set of extra batteries for all the accessories as well.

Lots of variables, but I try to carry a couple extra camera batteries, I use only Nikon branded and I also carry a car charger for them.....;)

Why so serious?

It depends on the battery and camera, and the situation. I go through a lot more batteries at weddings and shooting live music than at my family gatherings or walks in the woods. My 5DII batteries seem to last forever, but my Sony NEX-3 batteries drain a lot faster. I carry several spares with new equipment, until I know from experience how long they will last. Then I pack the appropriate amount of extras for the shoot.

I carry one spare for each camera. If I am going to be away fro more than a day, I take the charger along. The only non-brand battery I have is one bought in an "emergency" situation (lost one for a while and wanted a backup.)

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I have one spare battery. I have never been out shooting where both batteries just died to where I would need 3 batteries.

I only have 1 battery. I've been meaning to get around to buying an extra battery, but you know how life just takes you in so many directions...buying a 2nd battery just sometimes doesn't seem as important.

It will be when your battery dies in the middle of an important shoot.

I was very concerned about running out of battery last weekend while shooting for the MS Society event. Thankfully I was able to make it through the day without the battery dying on me. But it made me think, maybe it's time to get a second battery! After all, when I bought my camera (used), the seller included a battery grip with it, and I'm not taking advantage of that at all.

So I ended up buying 3 extra batteries, that way I'll always have 2 in the grip and 2 extras charged and ready.
