12 years 8 months ago #148524 by J. Hansen
Hi, I am looking for something to magnify the eye piece and LCD screen on a camera. My Dad's eyesight is getting bad and he has a hard time seeing the LCD screen or looking through the view finder. Is there a product out there that can help him. He enjoys taking pictures and gets very frustrated cause he cann't see will enough anymore. He already wears glasses. Told him I would hop onto PT and see if anyone could help us. Thanks for any info!!!

P.S. He has macular degeration in both eyes.

I would contact Hoodman, they have a hood loupe that I want to say has some magnification to it 1x and 2x. This will help with seeing the LCD screen better. Now regarding the eye piece, I would ask Hoodman again. They have some specialty eye piece units and might be able to provide better answer on this.

Nikon has eyepiece correction lenses. I would imagine all manufacturers have something like this.

I would hate to assume you know about the diopter adjustment on the viewfinder and be wrong. Perhaps his vision is too bad for that to help.

WOW!! That looks huge. I am sure it works well, but it appears to be bigger then a camera.

You might want to check in the article section here, I seem to remember an article written about this

Have him try setting the Diopter adjustment first as Charles said. The best way to do it is to use a tripod and use a box of cereal and zoom in then hit the AF and dial it till the letters are crisp. If that doesnt work then the magnifier is your next step. Also you still may need to adjust the Diopter to get it tack sharp.
