I was skeptical at first about these filters, and after reading some of your remarks from this site picked up one and you know what, I do see the difference in the white balance. I was getting a error at first but figured that out. I'm impressed with this little gadget

With your D80 you go to the Menu to White Balance and then measure, then you click the shutter and it is done.

Even though the card is gray instead of white. Wouldn't it be easier to use a white sheet of paper or cardboard?

It doesn't matter what tone it is: white, gray, or black. For wb all that matters is that it's color neutral.
