What's the difference?

How can one tell the difference between a snapshot and a good photo?

I guess a snapshot is when you just point the camera and shoot, with no thought to the composition of the picture.

To me snapshot means the same as point-and-shoot - point your camera at the subject and hope you get a good image. Snapshots can be very good photos. The difference is that the person who thinks about camera settings, composition and what they want their image to look like beforehand will get good photos a much larger percentage of the time, the snapshooter only occasionally.

A snapshot is like when you go to a birthday party or family reunion. You are just taking pictures for the memories, not for the sake of selling them.
