Astrophotography question

12 years 7 months ago #154409 by Janos
No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationI would love to get closer to the stars, 1000mm would do the trick. But is this too good to be true?

I'm looking for a good deal on telescope or long enough lens, but is this a joke or legit?

Don't waste your money. Here is a good site, lots of info......
www.astropix.com/INDEX.HTM

Plus, if you have an interest, find and attend a star party before you spend nickle one. You'll see why there.........Cha....ching.......:)

I'm buying a 10" telescope soon myself so can tell you those are a joke. I thought I would save money and bought one and I was quickly disappointed. Save your money and either pick up a Meade or Celestron telescope if you want to get serious about astrophotography. That's what I'm doing.

astrophotography is so cool to look at those images, but must be extremely expensive.

Local astronomy clubs, camera clubs will usually have a few astro picture takers, colleges, and if all else fails Google.....;)

btw, that link, you don't have to order anything, there is still a ton of info, just click around......

My father is really into astrophotography and has been egging me to get into it for years. I'm waiting for the right deal to come across on a nice set up.

Well as others have said that lens is pretty much junk. Mirrored camera lenses are really hit or miss on quality, out of 100 you might find maybe 5 that are good. Besides at f/11 you would have very long exposure times.

Keep an eye out on Ebay and Craigslist there are usually good deals that pop up from time to time. Tax season next year when I get my refund check I'm going to get one. The deals are out there, you just have to be ready with cash. Also you might want to contact the manufactures, you never know if they might have a good deal on used or refurbished one.

Thanks for sharing this. You know there are some good photos you guys on the Meade and Celestron websites also. Each of their telescopes has photos that were taken with the telescope.

I'm not sure if KEH would have something like that? Might be worth checking

You need to go outside of city limits to use these right?

It depends on the amount of light pollution in your area. Here in Flagstaff you can do it in town pretty much. We are the first International Dark Sky city. But in most cities yes you need to go to a remote area away from the lights.
