Taking my camera to the madison square garden?

Does anyone know if the madison square garden allows cameras? I'm sure it's easy to sneak in a point and shoot. But I'm talking about a DSLR. I have a Nikon D90, that I would like to take with me.

This is what I found..

"Cameras, Video cameras, monopods, tripods, audio recording devices and cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses are not permitted inside Madison Square Garden at any time. This policy will be strictly enforced. You may bring in a disposable or 35mm camera (with no zoom or telephoto lens), however, for some events, cameras of any type and/or flash photography may be prohibited."

Thanks.

Does anyone know what is the reasoning behind this rule? Why can you not use an expensive camera, yet you can bring along a cheap disposable and they let you use it?

I think it is because they don't want professional photographers paying normal ticket price for them to snap off probably hundreds of shots to then sell to newspapers and such, well thats my understanding of it. Who knows the real true reason.

I think teams are trying to protect use of their logo, team name, players' images etc. It's become more of an issue w/people being able now to put photos all over the internet.

They check camera bags (and maybe purses, I never took one to a hockey game, but I think they do ask you to open it so they can take a look). Even at college and minor pro games bags are checked. When I was shooting hockey for a minor pro hockey team they usually even checked mine (not too thoroughly since most of the security guys knew me). They check credentials too. This has gotten tighter than it used to be in the last ten years of course.

I hope you're getting to go to a Rangers game!!

I went to an outdoor concert, it was Jools Holland, I had my D300 with me, I was told I would not be allowed near the front and if I was seen I would have my camera removed and I would have to collect it after the concert, I think it has something to do with how you are going to use the images afterwards as they wouldnt have any control.

I think in the end, it's like a house that has rules. Your house has rules, my house has rules. So the madison square garden also has rules. Would I agree to the rules of your house, I may not, but I would respect you and the rules when I am a guest in your home.
