I ended up photographing my grandfather's funeral 3yrs ago. He was my dad's father. My dad and uncle asked me too. My grandfather was a mason, was in the navy, a photographer and his career he was a scientist.

This was the first funeral I ever taken pictures of. It was actually hard for me. Not me personally, because I was able to seperate myself from the emotional side and become the photographer. However it was hard in the sense to take pictures of my family mourning. Part of me didn't think it was right. Yet, the other part of me was like, my father and uncle asked and I'm sure my grandfather would have liked me too. So I took the shots, but I don't think I did as good as I know I could have.

So I put together the pictures in a video with TAPS playing. (which was the surprised part). I burned a copy and gave one to my father, to my uncle and my two aunts (the four kids). They all loved it. My father doesn't cry much, but he did when he watched the video and so did my uncle.

I can't say I would be to excited about photographing a funeral. Everyone is going to be all sad. Honestly I would rather photograph a wedding or something that represents a celebration. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

I have also photographed a wedding and IMO, I rather do funerals. Funerals are sad, but it's also less time and less stress.
