Purposely creating lens flare using a 18-105mm kit lens?

Aren't you suppose to be able to make any lens kick off some lens flare when you have the aperture wide open and bright light source directly at the lens? I'm purposely been trying to get some lens flare with a 18-105mm kit lens and can't seem to get the effect to happen. I must be missing something.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

No you dont want the light source to be directly at the lens, you want it at an oblique angle. But the light does have to hit the lens just not directly.

:agree: Move the light source angle to lens and you should get them.

Did you take the lens hood off to capture the lens flare? That is usually how people get lens flare, no lens hood.

You could always add that into the photo in Photoshop

I was thinking the same thing as Joves. I've never tried to get the flare on purpose but if I did it was with the light hitting more at an angle I think.

Yes and this is why they make lens hoods is to prevent flaring.
