Online photography school degree's?

Would anyone happen to know if having a online photography degree will be looked at seriously by a hiring manager with a magazine or place that is hiring a photographer?

Let your work be your resume. Most photographers I know, do not have a "photography" degree at all.

This might be a natural opening for a job interview... Go ask a hiring manager and look for an opening.

They would be more interested in seeing your portfolio...

:agree: so true, the school is just the foundation, the photos are the bricks and roof

:agree: A degree in anything just means you know the basics to get your first job. Real experience trumps a degree in most cases (not medicine and engineering obviously, you need a degree to even begin to know what you're talking about in those fields)

Showing a portfolio of your work is the most important thing. It's proof you know photography. Having a degree is nice, but many people can pass, and still not know a darn thing.

IMHO personal experience in photography will surpass a piece of paper any day of the week. But the education is super valuable to the success of the photographer

I think the experience is 100% needed, the education is what will separate you from others. But the quality of your work will sell it self.

A degree related to photography (bachelor's or master's) would most likely be in art or journalism/PR at a university; an associate degree could be through a technical school. Some online schools promote themselves as offering a degree but I don't think most are actually providing a degree; NYIP for example is for-profit and has accreditation as a home-study school.

If you show you've taken online coursework in photography it might indicate to potential employers that you have enough interest in it to put time and effort into improving your knowledge and skills.

Adrian plenty of careers and jobs require degrees. Mine is in education and along with experience, to continue teaching over the years I've taken ongoing coursework and training to maintain my licensure.
