Skateboarding Photography?

Some of my friends are into skateboarding. So I thought it would be fun to shoot them on a skateboard ramp, doing tricks and all. I was wondering, What's that lens they use to create the bowl type effect on pictures and videos? It's that one where the subject seems to get closer towards you as it moves by you. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I would like to try and create that effect.

A very wide angle lens. Extremely wide angle lenses are called fisheye. For a 35mm format camera 17mm focal length or shorter shows that sort of distortion (not fisheye, but starting to head that direction). For APS-C format look for 11mm or shorter. For a compact digital camera you would probably want a fisheye adapter that would fit on the existing lens.

An ultra wide angle lens (often called a "fisheye lens") will give you the "bowl" effect.

Thanks, does anyone know how much a fish eye lens would cost to use on a Nikon D60?

Like other sorts of lenses you will find a wide variety of quality and price options. The good ones are expensive. A cheaper option would be a fisheye adapter. This is a sort of lens that screws on the end of the lens you already have. Obviously an $80 fisheye adapter is not going to be as nice as an $800 fisheye lens, but a lot of folks use them and get decent results.

A fisheye adapter, thanks. Never heard of one. Maybe I'll buy that first and see how my pictures turn out before spending money on an actual fish eye lens.

Try to find some reviews. The adapters come in a wide range of prices and quality levels too.
