What to do?

Why yes that is true. And?
It is still half the cost and when shooting IR as a general rule are static shots so if you are in a hurry why bother. It is better to be able to have your camera for multiple uses over converting it for a single use. Until the manufacturers make it easier to change out the AA filters, conversions are semi permanent. Personally I like the idea of being able to use any camera I have for any use.

Baydream wrote: The cost of the Singh-Ray filter is $160-190 (thin mount) plus any rings needed. Then when using a digital camera, don't you need to compose the shot and then screw on the filter for each shot because of the built-in filter.

On a bright sunny day you might be able to see your composition depending on the filter opacity..for the Hoya I can see thru it.At that price,I rather convert the camera. The trick is to buy a bigger filter than your lens and hold it over the lens[with no light leaks],screwing filter is a pain but you can focus in bright light if your focus sift. The best way is to use a tripod and self timer so that the camera remains motionless.A very cheap Ir camera but with a terrible hotspot at f8 is the Dimage7,plus it EAT batteries,I shot with it handheld at iso 400.You don`t have to shoot at f8...f5.6 -6.7 will give you decent
dof.

Thanks for that. I was thinking of using my "third" camera, a Canon XT. A pro friend in Canada had an XT converted and does great work with it.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

The beauty of converting is to shoot as though you are shooting with an unconverted camera,I shooting birds inflight with mine without any problems focusingwise.I strongly advise you to download the lifepixel`s images of the various filters,I just downloaded the image of the 'Super Color' filter,I don`t like it
but then it`s not me shooting and processing it.So mj,please download the various images and process it before sending your camera in.

I vote for a good lighting kit. If you have a good lighting kit, you will gain more confidence to gain more clients which in return will bring in more money and it will pay off your lighting before you know it.
