Just a little note about the D800 vs D800E.

If you do video do NOT get the E version. You'll get very bad problems with moiré.

Can you see it here:

This is a still (not full size) from a Canon XF300 video camera (a very good camera). I didn't even notice the moiré till I got it in post. I'm not even gonna bother trying to remove it as it's just not worth the effort for this project. A dedicated video camera like this usually has a strong OLPF (optical low pass filter) a.k.a. "Anti-aliasing filter" so imagine how bad it could be with no OLPF in front of the sensor. :o

I think for most people the "normal" version (of the D800) is truly the best choice. It's what I've ordered. If you're considering the D800E... think hard.

I ordered the normal version as well. I've done comparisons on what data/samples are out there and I couldn't tell the difference in sharpness. It seems SO FAR that it has a lot of...problems, and not a huge gain.

Totally agree. In fact, to me (so far) the D800E difference seems like what you'd get doing strong sharpening on a normal RAW file. Of course technically it's not, but that's what it looks like.
