Photographing moon with tree silhouette in front of it?

12 years 2 months ago #208822 by Archie
I have been having a hard time trying to recreate photos I see online where moon is behind tree. The moon has good detail and you can make out craters and the tree is just a silhouette. When ever I do this, I get one or the other. When the moon is sharp the tree is out of focus.

Are these photos created with 2 photos combined in Photoshop?

Sometimes they are two photos combined. Other times, it's just a greater DOF, with the focus on the tree.

Could also be the use of a standard lens or a mild telephoto with the image just cropped down to desired dimensions. I wouldn't put it past people

Are you suggesting pictures should not be cropped ????

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Don't think that's what hes getting at there just making the point that a lot of the Awesome pictures are sometimes HDR and or over doctored to look the way they do. Not that there actually taken int he quality they are shown

Although there is nothing wrong with crop images, even if it's the only way to make your subject appear bigger.
