Question for wedding photographers

I've been putting some thought into getting into wedding photography. I have been looking at Doug Gordon's wedding photography DVD sets and talking to another photographer to tag along as second shooter.

One thing I was wondering about of course if liability. I've seen a few news post about photographers getting sued for odd ball reasons. Accidents can happen, what happens if your memory card fails or becomes corrupt and clients photos aren't retrievable? Can you be sued over that?

I usually write into the contract that damages are limited to a refund of their deposit if I am unable to deliver the product as promised . however if the Client doesn't fulfill their end deposits are non refundable and I am not obligated to complete the albums. I had in my contracts that proof books were to be returned with the album orders within 30 days of delivery. Had one bridezilla wait a year - did not have to honor my end because they did not return the proof book within the specified time with the album order. Your contract is your protection- cover all eventualities and possible problems.

Good luck :beerbang:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

You should look into Errors and Omissions Insurance for wedding photographers. Actually, I would recommend anyone who provides a service to at least get a quote for E&O insurance. Whether you buy it or not will depend on your situation, but you should know it's an option.

You can be sued for anything, but not always successfully. Your job is to try and dot all the Is and cross all the Ts via the above mentioned contract. One of the delights of being a businessman.....;)

Why so serious?
