1st paid photography job this weekend coming up - how to photograph a baby shower?

So this is a friend of a friend who gave me this work. I took your advice and doing this for $75, so technically I'm getting paid, but honestly that will most likely cover my gas to and from the job. I know this isn't a wedding job, but it's something to get the ball rolling. Are there any structure to a photographers job at a baby shower? Any "must do's"?

Thanks Photographytalk, I really appreciate all the help you have been to me.

$75 will only cover the gas? Where is there baby shower 2 hrs away? I know gas prices are going up, but come on, is it that far away it will eat the whole tank of gas.

Take shots of the mother to be opening every single present. Show the expression on her face. Photograph the guests, the cake (I am sure there will be one)

Focus on the Mommy to be, if dad is there snap a few of him, the pile of gifts and Mom as she opens them. Oh and get some of the grandparents to be as well.

Oh this can be much trickier than a wedding especially if it is a small area like a house. You may end up with what I call snapshots. Watch out for the area around the subject, clutter can mess up a good shot and it is to late when you get home and realize you can see the kitchen garbage can in the background. Even something hanging on the wall behind the subject can be an issue. Good Luck :beerbang: :beerbang:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I'm aware of Google results, but the people on this board have been so helpful and I trust their recommendations over Google results from people I don't even know.

You know what, thank you for the advise. But you need to turn down your sensitivity a tad on the gas statement. It's a figure of speech! And yes, the job is nearly a couple hours away.

If you can't answer a question with out sarcastic remarks, don't answer the question at all. Just my 2 cents.
