How are you dressed when you are meeting up with clients?

Eh it's a Friday, so I'm asking a question on all our minds today: Is it casual dress Friday? Really though, what are you wearing when you meet up with a client? Are you all dress up in formals or sporty casual with nice jeans and polo shirt or are you eccentric and go out wearing what you find to be fashionably your flavor of the day?

Depends somewhat on what I know about the client. If it's a younger couple planning their wedding and I get the "Apple store hipster" vibe from them, I'll be fairly casual. If I'm meeting an older couple who want family portraits and live in an upscale beachfront neighborhood, I'll go with khakis or slacks and a button up shirt.

If I don't have know that much about the client, jeans and a polo.

:agree: same here... :beerbang:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Yeh I do basically the same as Roy.

I dress appropriately for whatever I'm shooting too. If it's a wedding, I dress like a guest (for example).

Unlike 99% of the local Hong Kong photographers/videographers who dress like they're renovating a house or something. It's ridiculous.

Last night I was shooting an event. I basically greeted people at the door and took their photos. The guest speaker assumed I was part of the company hosting the event.

Now if I dressed like a slob and didn't care about anyone... then she'd have assumed I was just another local jerk.

Although I don't meet the same sort of clients that you folks meet. When I attend trade shows I'll wear either a polo style shirt branded with PhotographyTalk or a button up long sleeve shirt with nice pair of jeans and fashionably appropriate shoes.

Thank you for making PhotographyTalk.com your photography community of choice.

I prefer business casual or nice jeans and a polo shirt. If it's upscale a button up shirt and tie with a nice pair of slacks. if I'm shooting a game at the rink a turtleneck and nice jeans( it gets cold around the ice )

:agree:

I dress like I'm on the job, because I am. In general I just try to look professional. What I typically wear would be suitable for many occupations.

After I've come to know a client, and I think they'd be okay with it, I might dress more casually at a meeting that I know is going to be casual.

Once at a wedding I was discussing shooting restrictions with the officiator. He said since I was dressed nice that I could do anything as long as I didn't blind him with the flash. He commented that he makes poorly dressed photographers (he mentioned T-shirts, sneakers, sandals, and photo vests) stand in the back. :)

I don't have photography clients but I do have several others in another field.
First time meeting them, I overdress. Even if I know they are laid-back people, I forgo the jeans and wear dress pants.
Basically, I dress one step above what they would expect.
I'm a representation of my business and want to put my best foot forward.

So I'm guessing know one is wearing their AC/DC shirt with their cut off jean shorts?

jeans and tshirt. :)
I really don't feel the need to get all dolled up to meet clients, when I sure the heck won't be all dolled up when I shoot. It's just not me.

I've seen that guy shooting senior portraits in the local park on many a Saturday morning.

In non-work life that sounds similar to how I dress. They made me wear a tie when I sold cameras and developed film. I don't wear a tie very often these days, but I'll put on the nice pants and shirt for work.
