Will metal prints fade if left in sun light?

I have a client who wants a couple photos printed on metal and is asking if these will fade over time. I have no clue, would any of you know this answer?

The simple answer is YES. All photographs, artwork..etc will fade overtime if you leave them in the sunlight. Metal prints are created through a process called sublimation. The image is reverse printed on a special transfer paper. The print is then place over the top of the metal sheet which has been coated with a special receptical layer. The two pieces are then heated to about 375 degrees. The inks on the transfer paper become a gas and dye the receptical layer on the top of the metal panel.

I would not recommend hanging these pieces in direct sunlight and expect them to last without change. However; if you treat them like any other ordinary piece of artwork...out of direct sunlight then you can expect them to last for years and years....I would not however go so far as to call them archival.

You leave anything out in the sun long enough and it will fade. The sun is to powerful over time.

Ask your lab. If they don't know check the print/process manufacturer's website (and find a better lab! ).

Pixel2Canvas offers metal prints...we typically place hangling blocks on the back of them, or for the smaller ones, we created a product called the ice block which is a piece of clear acrylic which allows you to set them on your desk or shelf at the perfect viewing angle.

As said already, anything you place in the sun long enough will surely fade over time. I would be curious if a UV protective glass would slow down the process, but then that takes away from the metal print.
