Camera maximum write speed and memory card speeds

This thread is a continuation from another thread I saw here, but didn't want to hijack the thread. So my question is about the relationship between the camera's write speed and that of the memory card. For example my Nikon D300 has an approximate maximum write speed of 35 MB per sec, so does it make any sense for me to buy any memory cards that are advertised greater than 35 MB per sec? I know many of these go from 45 to 60 to even as high as 100 MB per sec. If my camera is only able to write at 35 MB per sec, anything above that would be a waste of money right?

The camera generally specifies a minimum class (e.g. SD class 6) but a faster write speed means the data gets stored by the memory card just that much faster. In other words, the card's speed impacts its response time.

I've been seeing class 10 SD cards on sale the last week or so, so it appears that prices are dropping yet again. My Nikon only requires a class 6 (30 mb/s) but I picked up a class 10 and it performs beautifully, especially in continuous shooting mode. Given the price point there's no reason not to buy the faster cards, IMO.

So what happens if you were to use a class 4 (just example)?
