Do you follow a procedure when changing lenses

I am sure we all have different ways we change our lenses. Such as leaving the body open until the next lens is on, or not caring at all about the equipment, as long as you get the next lens.

How do you go about changing lenses?
Do you get out of sunlight?
Do you wipe the lens down before putting the cap back on?

The main things is to get the camera out of the wind (and out of a dusty or wet location), face it downward and get the next lens on ASAP.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I always have the rear cap off the lens that is going on, camera down and a quick swap. If the wind is blowing then I will shelter in car if available or under my jacket or shirt. I look funny, but it keeps some of the wind off the camera :toocrazy:

YEh sounds about right. I hold my camera against my body with my left hand and hold onto the lens with my fingers. I then hold the new lens with my right hand. I twist off the old lens and still holding it with my left hand, swap the new lens as quickly as possible. I can do the actually swapping part in a fraction of a second. Takes a bit of practice, but it helps prevent dust.

Sorta related:
I once assisted a National Geographic photographer who never stored his cameras in his bag with the lenses on. I got chastised (told I obviously wasn't a photographer) for putting his camera in the bag with a lens on. I thought he had some super secret knowledge that I didn't know about so I asked around about it. Turns out it's just his quirk and there's no reason to not store the camera with the lens on it. In fact taking the lens off just invites dust in. This same guy would leave the camera with the lens off for quite a long time while changing lenses. Seems if you're a sponsored photographer you don't need to care about dust.
