Sorry Rob, I am posting using my iphone today and didn't see you were posting an example. I thought you were the OP wondering why your photos weren't blurred. Didn't see your avatar you see.

Screamin Scott wrote: The flash freezes the action. You can't use a shutter speed that is faster than your cameras flash sync speed ( except when using high speed sync, subject for another thread)...If you use too high a shutter speed, a portion of the frame will be black as the shutter will only be partially open when the flash fires. Modern flash units have extremely short flash duration times ..My ring flash duration is anywhere from 1/420th to 1/5000 th of a second , depending on the power level I select. So it is the flash that stops motion when it is used, not the shutter speed...

Partially correct in that flash can freeze action. It still has to have enough light to do so. You can blur easily if you shutter speed is below the 1 to 1 rule from shake, even then the 1 to 1 requires you hold the camera steady to some extent, and the flash by putting more light on the subject makes it more likely you will get a successful result. You still need higher shutter speeds to freeze action, but his also is dependent on the type of action you are speaking about. For example shooting models walking down a runway will require less shutter compensation, than capturing someone throwing kicks or punches. Also need to know what was the aperture, as this also is a factor, as is what ISO is being used.
All flash is for is to give you the correct amount of light to capture a subject. You still have to decide the correct settings when using that flash, if you do not then you will most likely fail. Speedlights are light modifiers, in that they are modifying the available light to give you enough light, or an effect you want from a scene/subject. To the poster you really need to read your Manual, this will teach you want your camera can do, and how to get it to do it.
