Freezing insects for macro photography

Am I understanding this correctly that all those super close shots of insects that are sharp, are insects that are frozen? Is there a place you order insects this way for photography purpose?

Incorrect. Most fine insect photos are shot in mornings, when bugs are lethargic. Also, you needn't freeze them. Refrigerate, photograph and then release them and they'll survive. There are many tutorials online..... ;)

Why so serious?

:agree: :agree: You want your subject to be alive, unless your name is Dexter...

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Also picking a good spot where they show up is the other thing. Bugs like any other creature have habits, and memorize areas where the food is easy to get. You can preset your equipment and just wait for them to come there. With bugs the amount of time they keep coming back is short, but they do.

Never once refrigerated or froze any insects...and I've got loads of images where you can see their eye facets...

No insects were frozen nor harmed in the making of this photo.
The only time freezing them is fun is for this.
