WHO PAYS PHOTOGRAPHERS?

I just found this website where photographers can post up anonymously what they are earning for particular jobs. Seems like a good idea to gauge what you are earning vs others or how to price out jobs. whopaysphotogs.tumblr.com/

That is so sad. I think it has now become that you have to catch an event that you are by luck the only one there getting the images. Then you can get what you want a dictate what is paid for its use, whether or not they can resell it, and who owns the image. This is not just a case of budgets as I saw in some posts, this is a case of a greedy board. As the one post said what if we as photographers decided to not provide images. Though I doubt that you could get every photographer to not submit. That would be due to all of the people who would be happy with saying look I was published in this magazine, or paper. Which I think is the way it is going to be very soon in the future. Publishers will pay people to scour the web to get images, which I might add is being done to a good extent now.

This doesn't make sense, anonymously? That means anyone can just post rubbish there. Also it doesn't make sense for the smart photographer either. If you shoot a job for someone, chances are you might be the only photographer on the job, when it publishes you don't need to be a rocket scientist to put two and two together between the anonymously post talking about pay for Magazine ABC and Magazine ABC printed copy with your name published in it. I'm sure Magazine ABC won't be to excited to rehire you if they see this too.

If you are in that part of the industry at all, then you had better be posting anonymously. The captains of the media do not like any aspect of their business revealed, and they do not forget who rocked the proverbial boat. Once you tick them off your only career choice for photography is weddings, and a Walmart portrait shooter. I found those to be pretty close to what I knew as what is paid out for photos submitted, and if you free lance for them about right for the pay. Contrary to popular belief that enc of the business does not pay well at all. The only way you get paid better is if you have a famous name, if not they you are merely just another photographer, and there are 10 of thousands behind you willing to do the work.
