Buying lens warranty to cover used lens bought from eBay

I'm tempted at buying a used lens on eBay and just concerned about warranty. Are there any companies that offer a fair priced warranty on used gear you buy from eBay (or where ever)? If so do you need to send the lens to them for inspection? How does that work?

Best to contact the seller and find out if there is a transferable warranty, if this lens qualifies or is it a "gray", etc. Also, you don't mention what you're looking at. If you are trying to save thirty bucks on a thousand dollar lens, I would hesitate. More info needed for any valuable advice......

Why so serious?

A warranty on used gear not that I know of. Also for the most part warranties are not transferable to the new owner, unless they did not register it in the first place. The only problem you would have with any warranty work is having the original receipt, which is required by most. You might contact sellers like KEH to see if they have a third party provider for used equipment. But my guess would be no. There are warranty extensions for refurbs though, that extend the 6 month warranty for a year or better. My whole philosophy with buying used glass, or gray market is the price has to be so great a difference as to warrant not getting the warranty. People who want to sell a used lens for top dollar are on drugs IMO, but some people will go with it. Remember for Nikkors the warranty is 5 years, so to give that up is crazy for a couple of hundred dollars. As with anything else in life you have to weigh out the pus&minuses, and decide which makes the most sense in the long run.

All good points, checking to see if the lens was USA or Gray market should be first on check list
