Are you backing up photos on disc any longer?

I had started backing up photos on disc, then disc and external hard drive. I have, I would guess 50 to 70 discs. I haven't saved on disc in some time, only external hard drive. Are you guys even saving to disc any more either?

Not in the least. 70 discs? What will you do to access/catalog those images? External HD's are so cheap now, discs make no sense.

That just sounds like it's going to be a head ache trying to find what disc has what photos. I would move all those photos onto hard drives if you haven't already. I only pack up on hard drives.

No. Having done that in the past with video, it becomes an enormous PITA. Plus, DVDs go bad after a while (they're organic) despite what the manufacturers tell you. Hard drives make more sense.

I tried the disc route once or twice, and was not pleased with the results, or the process. I use an exteral like everyone else. They are so cheap now that there is no reason not to even consider them. The big thing is not running them all the time, and storing them where they cannot get damaged from fire and such. I have a safe for my external, as well as other things that is rated for electronic media. That is the important part that it be rated to protect electronic media, not all are.
