Who's shooting video with their DSLR?

What are some must have things for shooting video with your DSLR? I was looking at one of those Tiffen Merlin Steadicams. What else would you suggest?

What software are you using to edit your video?

Steady muscles, if you're going hand-held. A tripod with a good head (for fluid movements) and/or a steady-cam rig. A rail if you want to do tracked movement (I want one of these to get into timelapses).

Per another recent thread here on PT, I use Vegas because it makes sense and is exteremly stable. You don't mention platform, and that makes a difference for your choices. On the PC there are trial downloads for Vegas and Premiere (both full-blown and the budget consumer editions, I believe) so you can try both out.

Thank you. I'm actually PC and Mac, but most likely will use this on PC. I'm going to download their trial. Appreciate the help.

Yes.

I have adobe cc.

IS/VR on lenses works quite well with video actually. Steadicam systems are difficult to balance and master. Better using a tripod or a slider... or just hold it really steady and learn to walk smoothly.

Mostly shots that require a steadycam are kinda better left to people who are really good at doing steadycam... or just shoot it differently.

I have a friend who shots a lot of video and he has one of those Tiffen Merlin Steadicams, he uses often. I don't know much about it other than he loves the thing.
