What about photography hooked you?

Wednesday morning and half way though the week!

I'm just sitting here and eyeing my camera and thinking about photography in general. I'm trying to remember what actually got me hooked. LOL Do you remember the turning point for you, when you transitioned from curiosity to being hooked in photography?

Many years ago, I peered down into the small prism finder of the Kodak bellows folding camera that used to be my father's, pressed the cable release, and heard the faint whir-click for the first time. That was it for me :)

Same. Except it was a (borrowed) Agfa Ansco folding bellows. ;)

I'm not really addicted to it. Been doing it a long time but some landscapes, old homesteads and dogs are about it for me. I don't take a camera every where I go and sometime's it tries to drive the lesson home. Today I took recyclables to town, 35 mi, and as I was turning on the road in I saw this really neat old homestead. I've seen it a lot but never seem to remember it's there. Some one into it deeper than I am would not make that mistake more than once. The part of photography that probably attract's me the most is using my old manual film camera's, really enjoy taking them out now and then.

For me it kind of runs in my family. My grandfather on my dad's side was a photography enthusiast -- my dad grew up in a house where the second bathroom had been transformed into a darkroom. My grandfather passed away before I was born, but my dad had a little interest in photography, enough that he bought a 35mm SLR and used to take photos of me and my siblings with it when we were growing up.

Now I have that old Nikon SLR in addition to my digital gear.

I just love taking photos, there wasn't really a specific moment. As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed taking photos, even when I was a young girl!

Same for me, except my dad is not into it at all. It was my grandfather that did. I always saw him with a camera of some sort, I had an aunt that always brought a bunch of camera gear to reunions,LF,MF, 35s. I got the gene I guess. My grandfather gave me one of his old 120s with the bellows, and prism VFs. That was when I was 9, and I have been shooting on&off ever since, with life occasionally getting in the way for a year or two. I also used to draw, and paint so it was a way to capture scenes I wanted to do later. But the photography took over for the most part.

Good question, so tough to answer. I have been interested in taking photos for so long. Most my family has interest in photography too. So I would say it's because of my surroundings growing up. There was always someones camera sitting around. I don't know how many times as a kid, I was told to put someones camera down, as I was always picking them up and trying to take a photo!

I was 12 and my father gave me a point and shoot 35mm for Christmas. I shot off and on with it, mainly goofing off but it was fun. In high school I caught the bug. All the super cool kids were taking photography and in my desperation to be liked I also signed up. By the end of the term I could have cared less about the popular kids, I was hooked. I had seen the magic of slipping that white paper into developer and seeing the image appear before my eyes. I also seemed to have a eye for the frame, most of my art work submitted to art shows and accepted were photos. I also draw, paint, screen print, even tried my hand at the potter's wheel. I am an artist at heart, always creating. Photography is just my preferred media.

My high school photographer's photos was so bad, that I knew I could do better. I had a natural tendency in drawing towards rule of 3rds and 5ths without knowing it existed. Photography is instant art. Suits my lazy ass. :toocrazy:

I would like to think I am an artist at heart ...but only by using words or a camera lens.

Cuz I am sure not a painter, potter, or any 'physical' art which requires hands to create. I have two left hands . . .and I am right-handed..!!

With a camera I can find (or create) images that please me and hopefully others.
