If you had $2000 given to you to spend on new lens...

What new lens would you buy and why? It's that time of the year, my holiday bonus is coming next month and I'm trying to figure what I'm going to pick up this year.

Instead of a new lens I would jump ship for a new camera system, most likely the Fuji X-series.

I still wouldn't have enough to buy a 70-200 VRII.

If the 2k is restricted to just glass, I would go for the AF Nikkor 85mm 1.4D (cream machine), and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 ais. No question. I like the signatures on these two lenses very much...

But in my bag, a camera body upgrade is long overdue, I will probably just wait until I can go full frame.

It is what it is.

I would go with a nice zoom lens, like a 70-20mm f2.8 or hope like heck I could get a used 300mm

That would make a down payment on a af-s 600mm f/4... :woohoo:
Or, maybe a nice new 24mm f/1.4......

Why so serious?

Easy - 24mm f/1.4 is definitely the next lens I'm after

Well it really depends on what you shoot most, and what you need. Do you want a good walk around lens then there is the 24-70 f/2.8. Do you shoot wildlife, or need good reach then I would save more and get the 80-400 AF-S. Also it depends on if you are looking for primes, or zooms. I do not know how much of a glass arsenal you have as well. If you are just starting to build yours then get what you need as far, as what do your find yourself frustrated with on shots many times. If you are shooting in an urban environment you may have wished you had a much wider lens and so on. The idea of building up with many lenses is you get what you need first, then the things you lust after later.
Also the 14-24 is with in that budget as well.

I would have said the new 80-400 VR but unfortunately the price is way above the 2 grand allowed. If you don't have a macro lens I would get the 105 VR. I would then add the Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens.
