Camera price trends vs other electronics

Why is it other technologies like computers advance and get produced for less and get sold for less, yet camera prices seem to not budge for the better?

Actually they have. What you get now for the price point is way more advanced than what you paid about the same price for then. My first foray into the electronic photography was a Sony Mavica with a 10x zoom lens that recorded on to a floppy, it cost me about $600 if I remember right. I do not even think it was a full megapixel. But the point is back then it would be in the price range of the D800 in what todays dollar buys. So now you are getting a better camera for not much of a price increase. If the prices rose with the technology then the cameras would cost you maybe a third more in each new release. Also computer components are a very saturated market which keeps their prices really low. And those components are much easier to produce on top of that.

Prices have gone done, but also you get more technology for less than what you would 5 and 10 years ago

I'm not even as seasoned as many of you are, yet I have seen a big difference in the few years I have been involved in what you get with your cameras.  You definitely get more for your money in today's DSLR than 5 years ago, let alone 10 or 15!
