Would you have been offended?

If someone you were showing your photos to said one of your shots belonged on a post card?  I said this to a friend of the family who got all bent out of shape.  He had gotten back from a photo workshop he took in Costa Rica photographing hummingbirds and all sorts of things.  There was a beautiful landscape that jumped out to me and I told him that I wanted to travel to Costa Rica, and that this photo belonged on a post card.  After I said that, his whole demeanor changed and was sour.  Seriously, did I say something wrong?  That was meant to be a compliment.

Someone help me out here, would you be offended with that?

Nope, I would have considered that to be a compliment.  However, some fine art photographers regard post cards as commercial clichés.  They would rather hear that the photo belongs in a gallery, or maybe National Geographic.

No, I would not. The one time it was said to me, I took it as a compliment.

:agree: totally.
Some peoples children just have a major problem with visions of grandeur seeing themselves as the next Ansel Adams, or e.g other famous shooter. The way I look at it a postcard is art that is seen by a lot more people than in some stodgy gallery. I had somebody onetime tell me that one of my photos would make a great mousepad. I chuckled at it, and said thanx. The idea of a mouse running over one of my shots was funny to me. The way I look at it is if somebody thinks it is a marketable shot then it is a compliment. This is the photo that he said would make a good pad.

I wouldn't have gotten offended at that.  Either he misheard you or he's too much of an artist as Kelly said.
