Who still doing darkroom work?

My father was a photographer and of course back in the film days. I'd come home from school and the house would smell like vinegar from his processing in a stop bath. Boy my mother would get angry for how the house smelled.  I guess after a while I got used to the smell.  Is it weird I kind of miss the smell!

Just curious, anyone here still doing any darkroom work?

No, but a friend if mine still processes his own film.  You like that smell?  That's all you!

I still have my photo lab gear...all in boxes and stored in my basement. Not even worth selling and my oldest expressed an interest a few years ago, so there it sits.
I'll never do film again......:(

Why so serious?

I took a workshop some years ago and joined the art center at the university where the course was held (people in the community could get a membership and use their studios). I love it, but the building went under construction so I don't have access to one currently.

In high school I'd done some darkroom work with a photographer but didn't remember much of it years later, plan to get something set up at home eventually. I don't think too many people ever did color developing unless they did professional work. I have been doing some alternate processes like lumen prints and just need to set up trays of fixer and rinse in the sink (and I like the smell of it! lol).

With B&W film and paper you just get different quality than with digital. I've also been ferrotyping prints which makes them more glossy. I like to work more hands on than on a computer, although I've done some digital B&W too.

My brother has a darkroom, honestly I have no idea when is the last time he used it.  He's been in photography sense we were in high school.  The darkroom was a gift our parents gave him.  So that's dating back some time!

No I am not still doing Darkroom work but I must say that is something I miss from the old film days. I Love the old school thought process of exposure and then processing vs' the instant nature of digital...Don't get me wrong there are plenty of reasons I love digital too!

Digital is too easy to fuss with a darkroom

Not in years.  Although it has some nostalgia value, I don't miss and happy to embrace digital.

I am not sure that is right. I know photographers that spend way more time tied to Photoshop than they ever spent in the darkroom.

Ain't that the truth?!
Me I sold my DR equipment when I got the D50 while the selling was still good. When I got the Coolpix 995 I was not using my film camera much as it was, so when I got the Dslr I saw no reason to keep it at all, since there I knew I would no longer be shooting film. I do not miss any of the process at all, nor do I miss the smells.

I remember going into a darkroom with someone once, they wanted to see what developed... I never went in a dark room with them again.
