Murphy's Law for photographers

13 years 2 months ago #26471 by Todd Knight
I just got off the phone with rep up at Adorama and talking about a few topics and I was telling him about over the weekend I was trying to get some photos of a some landmark statue's here in town, and like clock work, every time I got the photo framed up and perfect the way I wanted it, someone steps into the photo! Over and over again!

The rep started to laugh and said if he had a buck for every time he heard a story like that he would own Adorama

He then called it "Murphy's Law for photographers"

Care to share a story or thoughts on the subject?

 Then there's the corollary...when you want to silhouette some one or are trying to get a candid they look at the camera or move out of frame

Try photographing wild animals as a hobby! For some reason they just won't take direction well?

I talk to them, very nice, sweet and gentle. They move, I ask why did you have to move. I tell them to get back here. lol But they don't listen.

I guess my patience wears thin and I usually give up after a few tries. At the Arena someone usuallly sticks a hand or arm in the air directly in front of my lens and I miss the shot of the game winning goal or a fantastic play

It's interesting that when you are shooting in the park or at a public garden or in a nature area, people will start to walk in front of you. IF they realize you have a camera set up, they will often say "Excuse me" or "I'm sorry" and step back. Have had this happen all over. Sporting events seem to be the exception. Is it the "excitement" - or the beer?

Oh I know that one well. Murphys Law though for it is if you dont have a camera they will sit there pretty as you please. I had this happen one day when I was going to the Pota-Potty on a jobsite, there was a bobcat near it that just stared at me until I got with in 50 feet of it, had I had my camera I know it would have bolted right away.

My sister asked for me to photograph her 1 1/2 year old daughter a few weeks ago, and just when I had the little girl sitting the way I wanted her, she moved!

Everytime I see an eagle, or a killer sunrise, I don't have my camera. Everytime I have my camera, I see neither of those.

I know what you mean. That's why I usually have a compact with me.
