Selling yourself as a photographer right for the job

9 years 7 months ago #404032 by Shane H
Here's the thing:  I enjoy taking photos, and my clients like my work.  The crappy part is that I am uncomfortable when it comes to selling myself for new business.  My thoughts seem to never connect and frankly, I think I sound horrible.  Would you mind me asking, how do you go about selling yourself to potential new clients.  Or is there any training you can recommend that would be helpful?

I'm grateful for any tips you can provide.  Thank you

Confidence and be myself.  That's it.

Are you generally a shy person?  You might want to look at Meetup groups in your area.  There are plenty of groups that will focus on expansion and managing your business.  Which include sales and marketing.

I'm glad I don't work anymore. Its tougher now than forty years ago, EVERYONE is now a professional photographer. I never had to sell myself, the business came to me back in the day. It was called a reputation, and that seems to mean little these days. Its always "how much"....(how little)......:(

Why so serious?

Try and not think of it as selling. Use a me prescriptive approach like a Doctor...Ask what the problem they are trying to solve and then prescribe the solution (which includes you taking photos for a fee). Not pitching or selling

Being confident in your work will speak for itself. You just have to translate that into confidence in yourself. It is the same for any endeavor in life. If you have people coming to you to shoot because of seeing your work, then there is no selling. The same goes for you if your clients recommended you, there is no selling. All most people care about in the business environment are results with the least amount of trouble. Word of mouth will always be your best sales strategy, this is because you have those who already want you to do the work. Also let your work sell you, and not you selling your work.
