HDR question about auto exposure bracketing (AEB)

Morning,

Hey I was wondering about something.  I have been taking more time with getting to know about HDR and I rather enjoy it.   I have been shopping for a new camera to join my back and have noticed some cameras have only 3 frames AEB or 5.  Will that make a huge difference with HDR?  I was just thinking, if I picked up a camera that had only 3 AEB for example.  I could just manually move the exposure up 3 stops, continue with the same shot.  Then I would have 6 AEB from manually moving it.  Right?

Yes. Just shoot on tripod in manual or aperture priority so the DOF doesn't change, and you're good to go. I've shot a few and seen a few where three shots were used and they came out fine.....;)

Edit....I just re-read, and you don't want to make 2 three stop HDRs. Maybe exposure blending would be easier and results even better than HDR....

Why so serious?

I never use the AEB myself for HDR shots. Since I am shooting in manual I just use my shutter speed to change each exposure for the scene.Has always worked well for me. That and it is an old habit from the film days.

I shoot with bracketing. I often find when manually changing my shutter speed I could accidentally bump my tripod or it will take too long and some aspect of the shot could have moved and destroyed my sequence. It's easier to just set up my bracketing and let it do its thing.
