When do you use continuous lighting

9 years 7 months ago #405624 by Chris Curran
When I first got started, I picked up a couple SV continuous lamps and four 500W light bulbs.  Aside from accidentally breaking one of these bulbs, I have only turned them on once to see how bright they were.  When are you guys even using continuous lighting?  They seem kind of bulky to do any sort of mobile work and not bright enough for other stuff from a distance.

Does anyone actually use theirs or do most have their continuous lighting collecting dust?

<<<< That was shot with continuous lamps.  1 flood bounced off the wall & ceiling and 1 desk lamp for fill.

I use them often at home.

I must say, mine are doing the same.  But seeing hghlandr6 profile photo just gave me some ideas.  Might be time to dust them off!

I use them mostly for tabletop photography.  Also use a video light for quickie shots around the house.

Continuous lighting is no different than using any other additional lighting. You use it when you need it. I have never used them outside which is where I soot mostly. I do use mine on occasion for still life, but yeah mine gets dusty. To me my light is a case of I might not use it much, but I am glad I have it when I need it.

Joves is correct here.  I use mine often, but due to size and of course that fact it requires electricity vs batteries.  It doesn't get used as much.

Granted most continuous lights aren't portable or small, but there is definitely a place in my photography closet of goodies.  I will use this sort of light on just about everything shoot indoors.
