Food Photography

What are the most important things to know about food photography? I've spent a lot of time looking through pretty cook books and magazines and now a friend has asked me to help out and do a food shoot. I have no experience in that area, but have agreed to give it my best and see if we can make it work.

Practice on some food from your fridge and work on getting a nice appealing set up

I've been practicing, but I can not seem to get that perfect white background.

If you are using a white backdrop, get yourself a gray card. Meter the camera for the gray card, then take the picture.

Thanks, I'll have to try that.

Also with food photography, make sure you have the correct lighting. Lighting is the key.

Food Photography usually involves a full team to make the shoot run smoothly. That includes making "fake" food, design, composition, color balance. The works.

Food photography and product photography is the hardest photography to do.

Use lots of bounce cards and mirrors. Good luck.
