What he said."Voting" is for public opinion only, and produces the "People's Choice" winner. It has no impact on the selection of finalists.
It does, however, domonstrate the "people" don't always have the best taste.
The voting mechanism, the "Trifecta" results in images percolating to the top of the heap; your award is the top 10 percent of images based on voting, not the top 10. Most of the competitions are juried, which means one or more people select the finalists and the winner. The limited entry contests are simply public opinion with no jury.
It's good to make it to the top percentages; take that as a compliment. If you ever make the finals, you'll receive emails letting you know.
