Cloud Storage and Amazon Prime

8 years 11 months ago #440764 by stuartsbarbie
I know we have had discussions here before about the cloud.  I am not a fan and probably wouldn't put my photos up.  Having said that, I am an Amazon Prime member and they have unlimited cloud storage for members.  I cannot remember what the video storage is but just and FYI.

Why use their service and give responsibility for storage of your photos to someone else? What happens if it's not successful (like the fire phone apparently wasn't) or they just decide to drop the service?

Perhaps it is a much cheaper solution than running your own server or drobo, it is something like 10$/year for unlimited storage through amazon. I could spend 4-5000$ on a synology server and have 8tb of online space, but then the same could be said if my house burned down, it would be lost. However if amazon loses it they can be held accountable. Furthermore, you would host them on the cloud to have as a backup for your backup, and frankly, most people are not going to hack into a cloud service for photos unless you are peter lik or ansel adams. Have a hard drive and then a cloud based storage and you'll be fine, one is offsite one is onsite.

As I said I am not a Cloud person, but I agree with Takennn. Also since it is free with my prime membership it is something I might think about in the future, as long I as I don't have to put any personal info up there.

The phone wasn't their core business, storage is.  I think any adversity, you would see from a mile away.  Just like their Fire phone, no surprise there.
