Not so much fuzzy water

8 years 5 months ago #462092 by stuartsbarbie
I know that long exposure soft "fuzzy" water is what everyone seems to want.  Especially when it comes to waterfalls and streams tumbling over rocks.  I personally would like to see a few more shots with "natural water".  It would be fun to see both shots of the same image.

I also dislike water that resembles toothpaste extruded from a tube. Here's one of Sol Duc Falls, in theOlympics:

Sorry, I don't take the other kind.

This thread brings attention to my portfolio that i don't have any waterfall shots.  Whats funny with what you are asking, is that I went to Google and typed in "Waterfall images" and clicked on "Images" nearly all the shots are showing waterfalls with slow exposure.

To each his own. I have many waterfall shots done in a variety of ways and (nearly) always prefer the slower shutter speed shots. If the water is heavily flowing, the long exposure usually doesn't work. Just like ocean surf, I rarely see a frozen wave photo that looks good......to me.

Why so serious?

I don't mind some streaking of the water, just to show motion.  But I agree, water shown as fog has zero appeal for me.

Nice photo John. I don't know why fuzzy water is popular or the latest thing or whatever... why is anything perpetuated all over the internet? lol Take the kinds of pictures you want and ignore what 'everybody' is doing (which will run its course eventually - I hope! lol).

What a marvelous picture. That is what I am talking about. I find this so much more dramatic.

I agree with you that people should take what they want in the way of photographs.

Thanks, Sharon. You don't have to look all over the internet to find proponents of this approach...right here:
