Should I go to photography school?

I'm not formally taught, however appreciate the opportunity to have been self taught.  When fresh photography peeps ask you "should I go to photography school", do you recommend them to attend photography school?

I don't recommend it.  There are plenty of free resources online for a motivated individual....

Why so serious?

With me it would depend on where you want to go with it. If you plan on making a living with it, I would strongly suggest a school, not a mail order school either. There's a lot to be said for hands on learning from a person that understand's what he/she is doing. I'm self taught and way behind what a lot of other's do and probably been doing it longer than a lot of them. Doing it for a living I believe would be tuff, very competitive market out there.

It depends on daddy's budget and your character.
There is a lot more theory, tests... when studying.

Excellent response.  I'm so restless that I can barely sit through a whole workshop, much less a few years of classes.

The other consideration could be the goal.  For advertising or editorial photography a school would be a good fit.  Many other types of photography can be DIY learning.

I'm the same way, why sit in a class when you can jump on You Tube, or PT or a number of other photography blogs for some sound heads up.
