Shooting a time lapse video going across a river, how to set up a rig?

I've been asked to photograph a boat parade and I want to make a time lapse that will go from left to right bank at the same time snapping away at all the boats crossing underneath.  How can this be set up?

Some of the time lapse rigs can be picked up with cable system that you can string from one side to another.

I sent an email to them a few weeks ago asking what span will that support.  Would be cool that it worked from a single cable, that would make set up much easier.
