Client just stiffed me out of $1850

If nothing else works, you can always post a report on Ripoff Report ( www.ripoffreport.com ) and include your former client's name.  Once it's posted there, it remains forever.  Anyone Googling your former client's name will see it.  I was almost at this point a month or so ago before a friend stepped in to help out.  My former client had stiffed me for two months.  I was considering small claims court and/or using RipOff Report.  Since my former client travels a lot, I was kind of looking forward to having him served at his major annual conference in front of his sponsors.  Now, I don't do any jobs without a contract which includes a 50% deposit before I do any shooting.

I don't know about Ripoff report being around forever - well not literally but meaning what's reported will stay on there any particular length of time.

I noticed the site has a place to make 'donations' but all I saw at first was a PO Box instead of a street address; finally found the name of the corporation. It's a registered business in the state of Arizona. So why is the guy who does the site asking for donations? it's not a charity as far as I can tell.

Anyway if you're in business as a photographer you can get some resources and information from sites of photographer organizations like http://asmp.org or PPA so you learn what to do - like getting a retainer/deposit before you do a shoot. Maybe then you'll get clients to know they'll have to pay first and it'll be less likely you'll be out the money.
